  1. Erotic 2010 ARTWEEK – Day 2

Local Groin Erections took precedence over Local Government Elections for some members of our society last night in Woodbrook, as the Erotic Art Exhibition rolled into its second evening. Not withstanding the last regime’s promise of Local Government reform and the close proximity of the Local Government Elections mere days away, it would appear that most citizens would have their attention centered away from that subject and focused on other things. I think we are suffering from bit of elections burn out.

The highlight of the day two was the Dressed For Work fashion show which was presented in the middle of the roadway on Murray Street to the absolute delight of the mainly young and excited audience. There was much spontaneous theatre between the body beautiful “ramp” striders in their striking wear, and the thankfully calm motorists who interacted in a harmonious and entertaining display of “Okay?”. Even the Police got involved in the act and played a wonderful cameo on the scene of literal street theatre.

Overall there is a lot of Art in to be experienced; Paintings, Poetry, Photography and live People exhibits are just some of the examples of this multimedia presentation. Artists are mainly from T&T and we have to thank and applaud Dave Williams for his courage, drive, and determination to offer something different on the artistic landscape of T&T. Not only does this have potential benefit for the active or passive audience, in that can stimulate thought on the somewhat taboo subject of sexuality but it also provides an opening for both the seasoned and up and coming artistes to express themselves. The viewers are challenged to examine their belief systems, to see themselves in another way or just simply to see beauty in natural forms, which are usually hidden in everyday life. Our bodies and our thoughts on matters such as sex and sexuality are but avenues for greater exploration and development of ourselves. This exhibition is not only about eroticism, to the probing eye there is more beneath the surface. It runs until 31st July 2010 and features the work of many artists, it has gathered wide participation from the Woodbrook business community, some of the venues are : The Art Bar, AliceYard, Island People, Drinks Wine Bar, Café Marrakesh and Bohemia. So its for everyone, including those with delicate sensibilities you can either stay in your comfort zone or challenge yourself, there is nothing to fear but fear itself.
